Fans of Chronicles of Elyria were outraged a week ago when Soulbound Studios forced players to sign a new NDA as part of testing Kingdoms of Elyria. It included a provision that seemed to restrict players the ability to join in class actions, among other things. While this is a common provision in NDAs and Terms of Service, gamers who are already engaged in a class action against Soulbound Studio for previous wrongdoings are urged not to sign such a document.
Soulbound has rewritten the confidentiality agreement in an attempt to remove all ambiguity and show that [the developers] are serious about the development of Kingdoms of Elyria and [they] want to hear from you when updates are made, following numerous complaints from players and influencers who were (rightfully) hesitant to sign a confidentiality agreement in such circumstances. The second amendment, in particular, includes a clause on negative feedback and non-testing services. While the site says that this isn’t a significant change, it certainly seems to be, and it’s unclear what this means for anyone who had already signed up for the old version. Thousands of users have downloaded the KOE launcher, and hundreds have joined the game so far, according to Soulbound.
The second section of the Soulbound blog post discusses the community’s toxicity, namely the daily onslaught of insults and threats of violence purportedly emanating from a tiny furious minority. While no particular instances are provided, it’s easy to assume that there are plenty of enraged members of the community who are prepared to lose money in litigation in order to express their frustrations on the Internet.
