The Oklahoma City Thunder had a history-making season, but it will be remembered as a failed experiment in their second year of playing the dual point guard system. Their coach, Billy Donovan is out and Russell Westbrook was traded to the Rockets for Chris Paul.

The “Lakers trade rumors” is a story that has been going on for quite some time. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been pushing for the ill-fated Russell Westbrook trade to happen. They should avoid future front-office jobs after this decision. Read more in detail here: lakers trade rumors.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis Should Avoid Future Front-Office Jobs After Pushing for Ill-Fated Russell Westbrook Trade

Great players don’t always make good coaches or general managers, according to an ancient proverb in professional sports. If the present status of the Los Angeles Lakers is any indicator, LeBron James and Anthony Davis may want to think about jobs outside of basketball. Last summer, the players of LA’s 2020 NBA champions pushed hard for the club to trade for Russell Westbrook.

Many people questioned where Westbrook would fit on the roster, especially because the Lakers gave up three regular rotation players in the transaction. The season has been the worst-case scenario, with Westbrook failing to adjust to life in Los Angeles, while James and Davis have been out due to injury.

It’s not the first time James has allegedly dabbled with recruiting. Given how miserably the Westbrook situation went, maybe GM James isn’t a position he should pursue in the future.

The perception of LeBron James being a shadow general manager

LeBron James earned a reputation as the franchise’s true decision-maker during his second tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Former general manager David Griffin, who is currently the president of basketball operations for the New Orleans Pelicans, strongly refuted the claim.

Cleveland advanced to the NBA Finals four times in four seasons, winning the championship in 2016. Did the four-time NBA MVP have a say in personnel decisions? That depends on your point of view.

Carmelo Anthony, another new Laker, said that it was LeBron who encouraged him to join the club last summer, not LA general manager Rob Pelinka. The two have been linked since the 2003 NBA draft, when James was selected first overall by Cleveland and Anthony was selected third overall by the Denver Nuggets.

According to Marc Stein of Substack, James and Anthony Davis were the driving forces behind the decision to pass on sweet-shooting Buddy Hield in favor of Westbrook.

Davis does not have a reputation for requiring involvement in employment decisions. But he also pushed his way out of New Orleans soon after Griffin came because he didn’t feel he was getting enough aid. Griffin is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.

The Lakers’ ability to rectify the Westbrook trade is hampered by Anthony Davis.

Because the Lakers gave up a lot of future draft resources to get Anthony Davis to join LeBron James, trading Westbrook will be more difficult for Pelinka. The 2016–17 NBA MVP’s performance suggests that a club will be willing to part with draft selections to get Westbrook. The Lakers’ earliest first-round pick is in 2027.

We understand. The front office receives superstars’ wish lists. James used the same method to win four titles in Miami, Cleveland, and Los Angeles. Lather with superstars, rinse, and repeat. In Miami, he was joined by Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Following LeBron’s signing, the Cavaliers made an instant deal for Kevin Love.

Davis, Westbrook, and Anthony are all in Los Angeles thanks to James’ influence.

It highlights the faults that occur when celebrities seek to lead teams. Are there any exceptions to this rule? Jerry West was in charge of the Lakers’ most successful time in their history. While Larry Bird did not lead the Indiana Pacers to a championship, they were in contention for one for most of his time with the team.

Other great athletes, on the other hand, flopped horribly where they excelled. In the 1990s, Isiah Thomas was a poor starter for the Toronto Raptors. After the turn of the century, someone held his drink while he thrashed the New York Knicks. With the Sacramento Kings, Bill Russell was a failure.

That isn’t even taking into account Michael Jordan’s draft management experience. Kwame Brown is the prosecution’s Exhibit A, while Adam Morrison is the prosecution’s Exhibit B. That is sufficient evidence to condemn the six-time NBA champion.

Besides, James will very definitely have his sights set on a higher post.

LeBron James has all the makings of a potential franchise kingpin.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, LeBron James has a net worth of about $500 million as a result of his wealthy off-the-court interests and massive NBA contracts. His business empire continues to expand.

He seems to match the mold of a potential franchise buyer. With his full ownership of the Charlotte Hornets (formerly Bobcats) in 2010, Jordan paved the way for former players to own franchises. Following Jordan’s lead, James has accomplished a lot throughout his career. Owning a squad in the future would not be a spectacular development.

Anthony Davis may not be able to get to that level. The first overall selection in the 2012 NBA Draft is said to be worth $100 million. He is, however, a year and a half younger than James, so he has time on his side.

If The King were to ascend to the throne of an NBA team, the issue would be whether he could resist the impulse to micromanage. Is he able to construct a front office that he can rely on? Or will James follow in the footsteps of Jerry Jones and join the Dallas Cowboys?

For LeBron James, this could be disastrous. It doesn’t scream future GM if he looked at the Lakers last summer and thought Westbrook would be a better fit than Hield.
