The state of Oregon is in full swing with spring football, yet the Ducks are in a sticky situation. With only a few weeks until the season opener, they have no quarterback.

A bit of background: While most of the attention on Oregon’s quarterback situation has centered on the current starter, sophomore Justin Herbert, it’s hardly the only position on the team to be in flux. The Ducks are currently without their starting defensive end, causing them to shuffle their personnel and push Lowell Lotulelei to the interior, where he’s struggled mightily.

On the field, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is already being compared to the great QBs of the past after his fantastic rookie season. Off the field, it looks like he could follow in the footsteps of another legendary passer. During the 2021 offseason, Hebert starred in a series of commercials for a group of car dealers in his hometown of Oregon. These commercials are surprisingly funny and reminiscent of the 30 second commercials of another pretty good quarterback, Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning has been in many funny commercials

. Manning was constantly on our television screens during his illustrious career with the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Not only during the big games, but also between halftime periods when the NFL broadcasts go to commercial. Manning is a master of funny commercials, having starred in many over the years. Early in his career, Manning showed his acting talents in commercials for Mastercard. The QB will cheer for normal people doing normal jobs, just like they cheered for him on Sunday. The most famous, Manning asked a deli employee: Cut the meat! The University of Tennessee product was then used in ads for other companies, such as Papa John’s Pizza and Nationwide Insurance. She is also remembered for her appearance with her parents, Archie and Olivia, and brothers Cooper and Eli in the classic ESPNSportscentercommercial.

. The Los Angeles Chargers selected Herbert with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Ironically, one of the arguments for the University of Oregon QB was that scouts didn’t see him as a communications leader because of his quiet, shy demeanor. Maybe the reports about his character were exaggerated, maybe his remarkable rookie year gave him confidence. Anyway, Herbert is now showing off his acting talents in a series of hilarious commercials for Kendall Automotive Group this season. In the commercials, Herbert sits in a chair and plays chair saver with people doing everyday things. Herbert doesn’t have much to do, but what he does, he does well. His understated performance and mischievous glances into the camera reveal his understanding of comedy and current events. Although these regional commercials will not air during theMonday Night Footballgame, Herbert’s performance shows that he is ready to become a TV star just like Manning.

Herbert also played like Manning in his rookie season on apitch

There are also comparisons on the ground. Hebert became the Chargers’ starter in Week 2 when the team’s coaching staff accidentally punctured the lung of starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor just before kickoff. Although the departure was due to an accident, Herbert never gave up working. Hebert totaled 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns in his first year in the NFL. By comparison : Manning scored 3,739 yards and 26 touchdowns in his first year. The Colts signal-caller also set an NFL rookie record with 28 interceptions, while Hebert threw just 10 last season. In his second year, Manning was selected to the Pro Bowl, led his team to a 13-3 record and reached the playoffs. Herbert is already working to repeat Manning’s commercial success. Now, of course, he hopes to have the same success on the field.
